A journey of training and hopefully transforming! After taking up running mid 2011, I fell in love with it and hope to share my passion with others! When I started I couldn't run a bath! But now I can say I have completed several races including the Great North Run and have signed up for many more in 2012. |
Today I got up early after a cracking nights sleep for Newcastle’s 100th Parkrun. I was planning on cycling across but it looked rather icy when I looked out the window so decided against cycling, wrapped up warm and decided to take the car!
I got to Exhibition Park about 10 mins before the start so jogged to the start line to warm up. The gun went off and I started my Nike+ (more successfully this time then I did on Thursday night at Harriers) I was out to beat my PB but just concentrated on pushing myself enough to feel it but not enough that I was knackered after 5 minutes! I had several layers on for the 2 degree temp - leggins, long sleeved top, fleece body warmer, running jacket, gloves, scarf and headband! I was feeling quite good most of the way round and rather than chase someone in front I just concentrated on myself and being that little bit faster than the last time I did parkrun. I got to 4km and was quite slow even though I knew there was only 1km to go I definatley need to build my stamina and my strength so I can push through and maintain my speed all the way through.
I was on the home straight and decided to go for it - I picked up the pace and went for the finish line not sure whether I’d managed to beat my time or not. I got through the finish line and checked my Nike+ it showed 31:05 which I knew was faster than my last time but would it be enough when the results were published …
Yeah it was!!! I knocked 33 seconds off my personal best from 31:30 to 30:57 and moved up the table a few places :) It’s not huge but at least I can see the improvements and I think this is down to training with the new club and really enjoying it!
I would encourage anyone to go and try their local parkrun!
