A journey of training and hopefully transforming! After taking up running mid 2011, I fell in love with it and hope to share my passion with others! When I started I couldn't run a bath! But now I can say I have completed several races including the Great North Run and have signed up for many more in 2012. |
As you probably know (I’m fairly dramatic) I’ve put my back out! I think it’s a trapped nerve and it’s something I’ve had before, last summer but nowhere near this bad. I stood up yesterday from the sofa and stretched upwards and then collapsed in a heap squealing in pain on the floor! Nightmare! After lying on the floor for a few hours I knew I was going to have to make it upstairs at some point so with the help of my mam and dad and lots of crying and screaming I crawled up the four flights of stairs to my bed room. I’ve had the worst nights sleep and still in pain today so taking lots of tablets and doing minimal activity.
Lying here I think it’s finally hit home that I just have pushed myself too much! January has been a disaster so far for me I’ve had problems with my knee and ITB, I’ve had a bug which kept me in bed for a few days and now my back has given up on me! After some consideration I think this could be down to trying to pick up where I’ve left off before the injury rather than starting back up slowly. My idea is to give my beloved harriers sessions a miss for a few weeks, build my base fitness up and get used to running again. Focus on getting my fitness up and my miles up rather than how quick I go.
It’s a shame I really felt as if I was improving but you’ve got to listen to your body and accept when to take a step back! I still had an amazing day at parkrun on Saturday knocking minutes off my PB and getting sub 30 so I guess January hasn’t been all bad! I think by doing what I’ve said and taking those few weeks to get better I’ll come back fitter and stronger. I can only try :)
