A journey of training and hopefully transforming! After taking up running mid 2011, I fell in love with it and hope to share my passion with others! When I started I couldn't run a bath! But now I can say I have completed several races including the Great North Run and have signed up for many more in 2012. |
So yesterday I took on my first cross country! The atmosphere is quite something when you turn up, there are lots of tents with members from all different clubs and you see people warming up, giving each other advice and checking out the course. I found the TBH tent quickly, left my bad and headed out to see what the course was like. Hilly was the first word that came to mind but from what I could see there was only one big hill and another long incline - I soon discovered that there were more hills than I had originally thought!
We watched the men and cheered them on at the start before heading back to the tent to get sorted for our race. The ground was quite firm with it being so cold so I changed my spikes to the smaller ones as there will still slippy places according to the men. Nervous the ladies team headed to the start line and after a pep talk from our captain we were ready to go!
The gun sounded and we were off! The start of this race is on an incline until you reach a small dip before a huge hill!I battled up the hill feeling strong and relaxed on the downhill on the other side, after enjoying the downhill there was another slight incline where we headed out on to a bit of flat, heading back I thought this lap isn’t as bad as I thought until I realised there was another big hill to contend with! There were different TBH members spotted around the course shouting words or encouragement as I reached the tough bits and after finishing the first lap I knew what to expect for the second.
It was hard and I would be lying if I didn’t say that and by the end I was feeling tired and the hills had made my legs a bit jelly like but as I approached the stretch back to the finish line TBHers had dotted themselves along the line and as I came into the finish the ladies team ran the last bit of the race with me (I was the last TBHer back). The feeling of support and the words of motivation from the ladies felt fantastic and really pushed me for a ‘sprint’ finish! I had a buzz for the rest of the day my aim was to finish the race no matter what and I did!
It really showed yesterday just how fantastic of a club Tyne Bridge are - the support was phenomenal and I felt a real sense of being part of a team :)

The ‘sprint’ finish!
