A journey of training and hopefully transforming! After taking up running mid 2011, I fell in love with it and hope to share my passion with others! When I started I couldn't run a bath! But now I can say I have completed several races including the Great North Run and have signed up for many more in 2012. |
This week so far I’ve only done one session with TBH and that’s it in terms of exercise - I know, I know very naughty of me! I had every intention of heading to the gym last night but as soon as I got in and prepared tea I just couldn’t be bothered and decided to eat chocolate cheesecake instead! This blog however is not to tell you what I didn’t do but what I have done so I’ll get on with it.
Tuesday was 2x6mins and 1x4mins which to be honest I wasn’t looking forward to. I normally find it hard to maintain a higher pace for longer than a few minutes so knew this session was going to be challenging for me. We started with a mile warm up down to a small estate in Walkerville, had the instructions for the session and explained and then got ready to run. My plan for the 6 minutes was not to get slower throughout this time but to keep pushing and either maintain or get faster. The first 6 minutes seemed to go quite quick and whilst 2 people overtook me in the first minute or so I soon overtook them nearer the end of the burst. We went again and I could feel myself a bit lonely - no footsteps running behind me and the faster ones out in front of me. I felt quite happy with this the people running out in front were either dropping back from group 4 due to injuries or were ready to take the step into group 4 on the next session.
Stats - 4.34 miles 42mins avg pace 9:44min/mile fastest mile 8:29.
The 2 six minutes went over quite quick and I felt really happy with how they went so way feeling positive for the 4 minute burst we had next. I went for it and we were soon turning onto Chillingham Road to head back to the Pool. I was chatting to a few different people about the cross country or races they had done and had a few comments on my running style saying I looked light and bouncy and very relaxed - these people could obviously not see my face! I know I say this time and time again but I really love running with a club the support, advice and general chit chat just makes running even more enjoyable for me :) I was buzzing after the session and to be honest could have gone for it again! I feel like I’m improving already both with confidence in myself and the actual running. The long runs I think are starting to build a base for the rest of my training.
Tonight is a pyramid session 1,3,5,3,1 which I’m really looking forward to as it’s one of my favourite interval sessions. My plan is to just go for it! Tomorrow is a trip to the gym and Saturday I will be at the first ever Gateshead Parkrun. I’m going to go for a PB even tho I’m not 100% sure what the course is like but after some advice and encouragement from friends I’ll give it my best shot! Sunday is a long run and then the week begins again :)
