Work in Progress |
A journey of training and hopefully transforming! After taking up running mid 2011, I fell in love with it and hope to share my passion with others! When I started I couldn't run a bath! But now I can say I have completed several races including the Great North Run and have signed up for many more in 2012. |
I got a great piece of advice last night from a fellow runner - focus on one goal at a time. I had been thinking of going for a 5km PB this weekend at a Parkrun but after some soreness and tightness in my calf decided against it. SAY NO TO INJURIES! After some thought this person was right, I should focus on one goal at a time - Edinburgh Half Marathon is the most important thing that is coming up for me and I want to be in tip top shape for this event. I have seen some improvements just over the last couple of weeks in my running so I need to keep going and build by fitness base up before even thinking about PBs. I need to get stronger, fitter and build my stamina up before thinking of the speed at which I travel!
Last night the session at TBH was a pyramid usually one of my favourites as I prefer the shorter bursts of speed but my calf was really tight and I was struggling in the first mile with the warm up. We started with the one minute and I just went for it and actually my calf felt better running faster (maybe I am built for speed after all) we then went on to the 3 minute followed by the 5 and then back down again to 3 and then finally 1. The run back to the pool was a long slog for me the pain in my calf was making me over compensate on my other leg which made my knee feel a little sore. I chatted to the coach for our group on the way back and we talked about running and somehow got onto WEIGHT!I admitted I needed to lose a few pounds and hopefully in turn this would make me a better runner as I’d be lighter and not impacting my joints as much.
I’m back on the healthy eating wagon and had a great food day yesterday which I will now continue with. I treated myself with a long hot bath last night instead of a biscuit as I always seem to think that since I’ve ran I can eat what I like! So I’ve decided to think of treats for after running that don’t involve food like a hot bath or some new kit :)
I now consider myself a work in progress hence the blog title - I will get leaner, I will get fitter and overall I will become a better runner!
